Under general administrative direction of the Sales Manager, the Technical Support Specialist applies product knowledge and application experience to meet customer technical requirements.

  • Thorough technical knowledge of valves, flow systems, actuators and controls
  • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience involving customer service/inside sales records systems and sales order work.
  • Relevant training in Inside Sales

  • Ensures that customer orders and inquiries are addressed in a timely, accurate and professional manner
  • Consultative selling skills; establishes partnering relationships with Distributors, Customers, etc., to assist customers and intra-department personnel with general to complex technical product support
  • Shares information with staff and sales representatives concerning inquiries, problems and corrective actions
  • Works to get orders expedited as requested
  • Reviews new orders to ensure correctness prior to being processed
  • Coordinates with Accounting regarding new customer accounts and initiates terms, letters of credit and records and updates master account files
  • Employs departmental order entry standards, procedures and systems
  • Ensures timely responses to technical inquiries, problems, product support and complaints
  • Organizes, coordinates and maintains customer files
  • Maintains special order requirement files and responds to specific customer requests
  • Participates in special projects as requested
  • Develops and delivers product application solutions based on technical knowledge and expertise utilizing company assets, departmental specialists, written specification requests
  • Assists customers with assignment of RMA numbers, recording of complaints, initiation of corrective action reports (CARS), etc.
  • Responsible for handling miscellaneous projects including, but not limited to, quotation follow up, phone surveys, pro-active customer calls, telemarketing, business development activities, etc.
  • Responsible for reviewing all opportunities with their respective Business Development Manager
  • Handles complete process of quote through order entry
  • Prepares, reviews and accurately processes change orders
  • Interacts with other departments as necessary in relation to issues on orders, credit/credits, corrections, availability for project participation, and request for information that may require vendor contact
  • Submits a weekly follow up status report on all quotations, projects and request to other departments
  • Advises the President of any competitive intelligence obtained during conversations and meetings
  • Share new contacts with Marketing for inclusion in our direct mail campaigns
  • Maintains a neat, organized and professional work space
  • Other duties as assigned

  Knowledge of:

  • Valves and Flow Control applications
  • Customer service principles, practices and procedures, records systems procedures
  • Highly proficient level computer skills including MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
  • Knowledge of ERP software preferred

  • Able to work in fast-paced, self-directed environment
  • Able to multi-task the activities with shifting priorities
  • Should be honest, assertive and systematic
  • Ability to conduct conversations with technical counterparts internally and externally with respect to technical, installation and troubleshooting
  • Uses probing skills to clearly understand customer requirements

  Special Requirements:

  • May be required to travel on company business in interacting with customers, vendors and sales representatives
  • Must be willing to work extended hours to ensure all job requirements are fulfilled
